I want to run 2 Morel Ulitmo 12" subs in the back of an extended cab p/u with 2 Alpine PDX 1.1000 amps in a down fire configuration. With a creative box design, I can give them an acceptable 1.2 cu. ft. of sealed space ea. However, I have limited space in front of the driver. I need to know the minimum amount of space from the mounting surface to the floor needed to make these subs work properly.

Yes, The pair of Morel Ultimo 12". I'm commenting here because I just recently had a sealed enclosure built for a pair of morels out of birch. I'm powering each of them with a Zapco 6.0 tuned to 2 ohms. Through very careful deliberation my audio team advised that a sealed box would be spilt in 2 with a piece of 3/4 inch birch to create 2 chambers since no 2 amps are exact leaving each chamber 1.2 cu ft. If you are bi-amping you should consider doing this. All the seams were glassed and dynamat put on all surfaces including Dynasorb on top of Dynamat in the back to absorb standing waves (4 pieces per chamber). I can give you someone who would very likely be able to answer such a specific question out of courtesy since our tastes for subs are aligned. Say your a friend of Steve Freedman who has the Acura TL. Speak to Andrew at Detailed Sounds, Caldwell, New Jersey. Peace, SF

Give at least 6 inches of space between the surface and the driver. I believe max excursion on the Ultimo is 3" so 6" would be plenty. The Morel stuff is great isn't it. I am running the Elate 9 3-way up front, and elate 5 2-way for rear fill. I ended up going with the Type X subs, PDX-4.150, 2.150, and 1.1000. I am running the Alpine PXA H701 processor. Love it!!!Dynamat. OHHHH Yeeahhh. I have 275 sq ft of it in my chev Malibu. It is tight. You made a good choice. I wish I had bought the Ultimo's but they weren't available to me yet and I blew most of my budget on the rest of my equipment. LOL! Hope that helps anyway. Unfortunately firing a sub to the floor my decrease SPL and cause some cancellation. but that is something you will have to deal with anyway with the truck. SQ will be tight and responsive though. Carpet will also Dampen the bass which may actually be a good thing.
Later.

The Morel Ultimo 12 installed as you desribe would need at least 3 inches between it and the floor if at all possible.
