Need Subwoofer Advice for Amp

Hey I'm kind of a newb with subwoofers and I had a friend help get my setup rigged into my car. I was using two 10" Sony Xplod subwoofers and they were cutting out with my 600 watt amplifier. The subs said 1100 watt on them so I thought getting the most powerful amp I could find would be more than enough power than they needed. So after hooking up a new Lanzar 4000 watt amp it somewhat bumbed at high volumes but was irregular and dimmed my headlights to the beat. I realized I should re-wire the subs individualy instead of parallel, but they quit working shortly after. I'm using pretty thick power and ground cables and the amp has seems to work fine. I was probably just stupidly overpowering them now I have a pair of dead subs on my hands, but I was wondering how I may still make use of my amp and setup? If anyone knows what kind of subs I could buy that would actually work well with this amp or some other modifications I could make it work with, I'd really appreciate it. Otherwise I'll probably put the amp up for sale after all the subwoofer hassles we've been through anyway. Thanks for any help.

yeah..

With the dimming, a power system upgrade would be needed to solve the dimming problems. you know, more powerful alternator, battery, and such.

not properly powering the equipment can be quite damaging to it... and the cars power system too.

assuming that you wired everything up correctly, no fuses are blown, the lines are all fine, its possible you could have just fried the amp. have you tested it with any other speakers? when you press on the sub woofers, do they feel kind of sandy? not smooth in motion? if the subwoofers were the problem, they would likely make some kind of sound, just a nasty one if they were just blown.

it doesnt really sound like its a problem with the subwoofers themselves.

im not sure exactly what series of lanzar amp you are using, but if its what i think it is, you have the vibe series.  if so that amp puts out about 1500w x2 @2ohm with around .08%thd.  ive heard a few people talk those amps down like they are no good.  but i bought one that puts out 1000w x2 @2 ohm.  im using it to power 2 new volfinhag 12"s in 1.35 qubic ft. ea. and they pound.  i have no trouble running it for hours at .75% volume.  im also using a digital cap that keeps my lanzar and a 500m fosgate at a constant 14.25v.  i think that may be your missing link.  a power cap.  with that lanzar amp your power should be a og or a oog. or roughly the size of your thumb.  i got it all off ebay for about $500.  Fell free to go to csrdomain.com and look at my set up.  im under ziggy1488.  its a 92' s-10 blazer.  black and grey with 31"s on it.  hope you get it all running the way you want.
