depends on what you want. sound quality? impact? volume? Its a favorite subject of mine. I've had a rivalry with a half brother of mine on which is better-Rockford or JL. In my OPINION jl does sound quality better and does an excellent job with impact and volume. I've listened to the rockford power subs but there were four of them and they completly blurred my vision but it was hard to pick out the detail that my single 10w7 can do. I know the 13w7 is loud as hell but jl puts sq first. I would GUESS that the rockford puts impact and volume first and brings in sound quality a very close third. Very close. If someone has a different OPINION please post it, because i want to hear it as well.

Well it all depends as the last fella said whether or not you're looking for SPL or SQ. As much as ALL of us in car audio would love to be able to have a system that does both its not physically possible. However you can get pretty close, I've heard alot of SQ systems that could still hurt your ears. If you're looking for SQ the JL is nice. Also remember the Critical Mass UL12 and the RE Audio XXX were the two highest rated subs by this very magazine. Morel makes a killer SQ sub as well. Most important however isn't just the equipment but the installation of the equipment. If you're doing it yourself be sure to look up procedures that are all over the internet for doing this all the best way. Sound deadening such as Dynamat or Raammatt are a requirement for any high powered system SQ or SPL. If you're taking it to a shop to get it done make sure they're reputable and not just cuz your best bud says so. Ask to look at the vehicles they're currently working on, ask to see a book of past installations, and have them explain the processes they use. If they can't or aren't willing to do so then look elsewhere. The installation of the equipment is much more important than what brand and model it is. I have an all Hifonics system myself that has whooped the crap out of some nice stuff around here all because I installed it as though it was a 10G system. If you want suggestions on brands we can give it but you'll need to give us a better idea of what you're looking for. 5G's can easily get you one unreal system especially if you can do the install yourself. Give us a better idea of what you want and we'll be glad to give you a more complete list of what we think would do you well.

alatoncustomaudio, can you drop me a note at musikman1 at gmail dot com ? It's about some system component assistance.. Tried to leave you a PM and start a new topic, but the system had no REPLY button on any of those!

Very nicely put ACA. And Soundsgood has a good point too. From what I have heard of the JL they sound nice. Punchy as hell and crisp. I heard some W6's that literally took my breath away. No doubt Rockford bangs but next to some JL's, it's Jl's hands down.. I would love 5G to drop on a system but I'm working with like $400 and doing my best. Thats why I joined this forum to get some input.

If JL and RF were the only two audio companies on the planet, I would go with JL. The 13W7 is sick. RF is better about building amps. They're both way overpriced, though. And as far as Hifonics goes, a friend of mine had one 10" in a beetle in a decent sized box and it hit hard as all get out! And clean, too. You could make a bad system with $5k using Hifoncs. (Oh, the possibilities!)
