Does it go into protection? Does a red light come on but the amp stays lit? Do you have a different amp you can put in there? That's have to be the first place to check if you don't get any lights on. The other thing you can try is swapping the head unit for another one and see if the problem goes away. If the problem goes away with a different head unit, then the head unit is faulty, if the problem persits, then you need to swap in another amp. If it still happens with the new amp, you have to start tracing speaker wires. If the wires are ok, then start disconecting speakers till the issue is found.

If a fault light goes on though, you can bypass a bunch of work.
Disconect the speaker leads from the amp and turn it up. If the light comes on it's the amplifier that's at fault.
If the light doesn't come on reconnect the speaker leads. If the light comes on, it's in the speaker path that there's a problem. Either a shortened speaker wire or speaker. See above how to trace that.

If none of that helps, I'd say look at the headunit itself. Swap it out and see.

Hope I could help.

What vehicle do you have sounds like a dodge family vehicle. It is most likley a ground issue in the head unit pull it out and find a really good ground and try it again.
