Car Speaker Buzzing When Audio System Turned On

I have had my VW Jetta ('06) for nearly three years and still have the factory sound system in it. Just recently I went to play music and noticed a buzzing sound coming from the front left speaker. I turned down the volume but the sound persisted at the same level. Now, whenever I turn on my sound system (whether there is music playing or not) I hear this buzzing sound. What could be causing this?
